Colorectal Cancer: The Basics- In the United States, colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cause of new cancer cases and cancer-related deaths in men and women. This educational activity provides an update on the current status of CRC, including epidemiology, early detection, and survival trends. The current treatment regimens for management of CRC in the adjuvant and metastatic settings are discussed, as well as nursing implications for managing toxicities of these regimens. The overall purpose is to provide oncology nurses with information on state-of-the-art treatment and side effect management for CRC to assist them in educating, supporting, and caring for patients with this disease.
