Therapeutic Hypothermia and Cardiac Arrest: Who to Treat, How to Treat, and the Role of the Cath Lab- Therapeutic hypothermia (TH) is the major breakthrough therapy in the 21st Century. It is the only treatment available to provide neuropreservation when applied after cardiac arrest event. Despite of current AHA recommendations, TH at Level I for shockable rhythms and Level IIb for nonshockable rhythms, TH is still underutilized in these patients population. The purpose of this web-based lecture is to provide an evidence based approach to identifying and managing cardiac arrest patients who are candidate for therapeutic hypothermia. The goal is to answer the how, who, and specifically the role of cardiac catheterization laboratory in TH post cardiac arrest.
Analyze the clinical data for use of therapeutic hypothermia following cardiac arrest.
Define who is a candidate for therapeutic hypothermia.
Outline the different methods available to induce therapeutic hypothermia, and their advantages and disadvantages.
