Evolving Concepts in Early Childhood Nutrition

NPWTBuilding Healthy Foundations: Emerging Data and Evolving Concepts in Early Childhood Nutrition- Despite our understanding that early childhood nutrition is the foundation for healthy development, there is a dearth of specific expert recommendations for optimal nutrition during the critical first 1000 days of life (ie, pregnancy/birth through age 24 months). This monograph examines emerging data and evolving concepts in nutrition for children under 2 years of age. Specific topics include: recent research into the role of the healthy microbiome and the role of probiotics in a wide range of pediatric diseases; the importance of key nutrients, especially iron, as children begin the transition to solid foods; and the latest evidence regarding nutritional interventions to prevent allergic diseases, including data on the early introduction of allergenic foods. Identify the nutritional needs of infants and young children during the critical first 1000 days that form the foundation for lifelong health Counsel parents effectively on how to ensure their child eats a wholesome diet including key micronutrients, especially iron, during the complementary feeding transition period to solid foods Apply the latest research about the importance of maintenance of a healthy microbiome to prevent disease and promote healthy development Recommend practical nutritional interventions to families to prevent and/or manage infant allergy
