Building Healthy Foundations: Emerging Data and Evolving Concepts in Early Childhood Nutrition- Despite our understanding that early childhood nutrition is the foundation for healthy development, there is a dearth of specific expert recommendations for optimal nutrition during the critical first 1000 days of life (ie, pregnancy/birth through age 24 months). This monograph examines emerging data and evolving concepts in nutrition for children under 2 years of age. Specific topics include: recent research into the role of the healthy microbiome and the role of probiotics in a wide range of pediatric diseases; the importance of key nutrients, especially iron, as children begin the transition to solid foods; and the latest evidence regarding nutritional interventions to prevent allergic diseases, including data on the early introduction of allergenic foods.
